This Ohka was received by the museum from the Naval Supply Depot at Norfolk, Virginia in 1968. At that time the original markings were gone. It was restored in the early 1980s, and again in 2006, both times with "I-13" painted on the nose. It is currently on display at the USMC Museum at Quantico, VA.

Withdrawn from use in 1940. This aircraft was known as Quantico 1. It is believed to have been based at Turner Field because it had been built to accommodate larger higher performance aircraft than the original Quantico airstrip known as Brown Field. The R2D would have been the largest aircraft in use by the USMC when they were delivered. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

Taken on strength in 1958, this Skyray served with several USMC and Navy squadrons before stored at NAF Litchfield Park, AZ in 1963. Re-activated in 1965, it flew with the Naval Test Pilot School 1965 - 69 before it was struck off charge. Pictured on display at the USMC Air/Ground Museum, Quantico, VA, the aircraft was later transferred to the Flying Leatherneck Museum, MCAS Miramar, CA and restored. At the time of uploading, the museum is planning and executing a move to Irvine, CA.

A very regimented line-up of VMF-1. An 18-aircraft squadron's first section's colour was red, the second section was white, the third blue, the fourth black, the fifth green and the sixth yellow. A section leader's aircraft had a fully coloured cowling and a fuselage band, while the first wingman had the upper half of the cowling coloured and the second wingman the lower half. This system was dropped in 1940. VMF-1 became VMF-111 on 1 July 1941. Photo by: Dmitri Kessel / Life
