This is a non-flying replica built by Qantas. It is of the airline's first aircraft . That was an Australian made 504K fitted with a Sunbeam Dyak engine. Became G-AUBG. and later VH-UBG. Withdrawn from use in 1932. In 1965 Qantas fitted a Dyak engine to a borrowed 504K, A3-4, owned by the Australian War Memorial. It was painted like the replica. Returned in 1987 with its rotary engine refitted and in RAAF markings. Qantas by then had built two replicas of G-AUBG, one of which is pictured.

G-AUBG prior to receiving its registration. It remained with QANTAS until November 1926 when it was sold. Became VH-UBG when Australia adopted that prefix in 1929 and was struck off the register in April 1932 after the CoA expired. The engine is a Sunbeam Dyak. RAAF 504K A3-4 was lent to Qantas in 1965, fitted with a Dyak and painted to represent G-AUBG. This aircraft was returned to the Australian War Memorial in 1987. It had been replaced by a replica of G-AUBG now displayed at the Qantas Founders Museum at Longreach. Photo from: National Library of Australia

One of the most important aircraft in Australian aviation history, VH-UER was the first air ambulance. It graces the Australian $20 note along with a portrait of John Flynn, the founder of an air ambulance service in outback Queensland that evolved into the Royal Flying Doctor Service. -UER was sold in 1934 and wrecked when it ditched near Caloundra on December 8, 1935. Using Avro 504 parts, the 547 was a five-seater with an extra set of wings to lift the heavier load. Proved unsuitable for Australian conditions and ended up as a chicken coop in Sydney. May never have been used on Qantas services. A second more powerful 547 for the UK Air Ministry was deemed too slow and too unstable and was quickly scrapped. Photo from: State Library of Queensland
