This F-8 was TOC in June 1958 and spent much of its early service career at Naval Air Station (NAS) Cecil Field, Florida, assigned to VF-174 training replacement pilots. In November 1960 it joined VF-11 "Red Rippers", its first and only front line fighter squadron and was deployed aboard the carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42), although much of this time shore based at the U.S. naval base at Rota, Spain practicing gunnery and dogfighting. In April 1962 it was transferred back to VF-174 until being SOC in 1971 and ferried to the museum that same year for preservation.

The F6C-1 was first TOC by the USN in March 1925. Although the contract called for delivery of ten F6C-1, only seven were actually flown as such, with the others modified with tailhooks and designated F6C-2s. These first Hawks participated in early successful trials of dive-bombing, the sturdier metal construction on the leading edge of their wings allowing pilots to dive at angles as great as 70 degrees. The museum's replica example of the F6C-1 was acquired from Chico, California, in 1986.

This SB2C-4 ditched in Otay Lake, California after suffering engine failure on 28th May, 1945. Fortunately the crew were unhurt and could swim safely to shore. The hulk was recovered from the lake in 2010 and delivered to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola for restoration to static display standard. I presume this is ongoing.

This was the first version of the FJ-4 (F-1E) Fury. The later version, the FJ-4B (AF-1E) had a strengthened wing for carrying heavy ordinance. The F-1E was used primarily by the US Marine Corps as a replacement for their earlier versions of the Fury. The a/c on display is one of two surviving F-1E versions, and was TOC in November 1956 with the USMC and assigned to VMF-232. It later served with the Naval Air Reserve Training Unit at NAS Glynco, Georgia. In December 1964 it was retired to the museum, and is currently on display inside the main building in VMF-232 markings.

This FJ-1 was on loan from the National Air and Space Museum (Smithsonian) to the Naval Air Museum for many years. When the Udvar-Hazy Branch at Dulles Airport opened, the NASM recalled the a/c back for display there. However, it has been disassembled and in storage since its return.

This was the second Skyhawk built, and was originally a YA4D-1. After testing was complete, it was reconfigured into an operational A4D-1 (later A-4A). It is (and still is as of 2022) in the markings it wore when assigned to VA-83.

One of the advanced aircraft brought to the US at the end of WWII, this rare two seat Me-262 was studied by the Navy. Given the bu 121448, it was struck off strength in 1947 and displayed outside with other axis aircraft at NAS Willow Grove, PA. Rescued from the elements in 1993, it was dis-assembled by The Me262 Project as a pattern for Me-262 replicas under an agreement with the Navy to return it fully restored. It went back on display at the Wings of Freedom Museum, NAS Willow Grove , PA in 2001 before transfer to the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola, FL in September 2010
