The first of two Pipits. This photo shows it in its final form before it crashed at Martlesham Heath on September 20. From the outset the Pipit had problems and had received horn balances on rudder and elevators. Soon into testing the tailplane failed. The second Pipit, N233, had a new fin and rudder, ailerons on both sets of wings and struts on the tailplane. The new fin/rudder tail was soon replaced by the old one. N233 crashed in February 24, 1929 when the fin failed. The pilots survived the accidents but not the Pipit. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

The prototype Vimy after modification with Samson engines. The work was done at RAF Joyce Green. This aerodrome had canvas hangars like that in the photo and it is assumed the photo was taken at Joyce Green. Vickers consolidated its aircraft manufacturing at Brooklands after World War I. B9952 was allocated the registration G-EAAR but does not appear to have been painted on the aircraft. The registration was cancelled in May 1920. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
