Capital Air Surveys of Ottawa operated this ex-RCAF Beech 3N from 1969. It had a chequered career during which it got impounded at Preswick on the way back from Algeria in 1981. Having been abandoned to its fate it ended up on the UK register as G-BKRN and has been restored to represent a US Navy UC-45J.

In 1996, while with Air North, it suffered a terminal accident after take-off from Bronson Creek. The No.2 engine caught fire then separated from the wing. Despite full power on the remaining three engines and full deflection of rudder and aileron controls in an attempt to prevent yawing or rolling, the aircraft came down in a river bed. Must have been a terrifying experience for the crew.

After only two years in service the paint has come off the leading edge and forward fuselage though hard usage. In the spring on unpaved runways, the top inch or two melts first trapping water and creating muddy 'soup' which clings to the tires, as here. Last operator was City Express of Toronto and cancelled in January 1990 with remains in storage at St. Andrews/MB.

Perimeter had several of these and they were used extensively on bag runs to N-W Ontario, flown by graduates of the IFR flying school to build experience. Because of this the attrition rate was quite high and this one was wrecked after take-off from Atikokan, Ontario on 23 August 1991.

Perimeter had several of these and they were used extensively on bag runs to N-W Ontario, flown by graduates of the IFR flying school to build experience. Because of this the attrition rate was quite high and this one was wrecked after take-off from Atikokan, Ontario on 23 August 1991.

Another one of the 70 or so ex-RCAF Beech Expeditors on the civil register at the time. It has long since disappeared from the scene. Many Beech 18s were retired after an expensive wing spar modification became mandatory in 1975.

On charter to the Houston Aeros hockey team which was a World Hockey Association franchise. On start-up to leave, an engine caught fire. After firing the extinguisher bottles, it was taxied out for take-off, during which the engine re-ignited. This time AFF had to put it out. After lengthy repairs to a fire-damaged engine nacelle, it scooted off back over the border while on a test flight. Withdrawn at Dayton Beach/FL in 1994.

Imported from Ariana Afghan Airlines (ex YA-AAC) and still in their basic livery, this DC-3 operated with Lambair until sold to Perimeter Airlines in October 1982. I worked with a WW-II veteran who flew these with Ariana on Hadj flights during the 1950s. He said the worst part was the hill tribesmen setting up braziers in the aisle to cook lunch.
