Originally built as B-50D, converted in 1953 to WB-50D. Pulled out of storage at Davis-Monthan AFB in 1966 and flown to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. There it was redesignated JB-50D and used by Aeronautical Systems Division, Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory in a test configuration. Retired in 1967 to the USAF Museum. This slide shows its last operational markings prior to being restored to a WB-50B. Now on display inside the museum.

Slide taken at the outdoor aircraft display area at the original USAF Museum. This was the last B-47E produced, and arrived at the museum in 1965 from the 307th BW. Sadly, it did not relocate in 1971 to the current USAF Museum site and was eventually used as a fire fighting training hulk and was destroyed.

The P-75 Eagle was designed by the Fisher Body Division of General Motors for an Air Force request for a fast climbing fighter. Eight XP-75s and six P-75As (out of an order of 2.500) were delivered and later used for development of the Allison V-3420 engine. This aircraft was the last Eagle built (sister ship 44-44554 nearing completion was never finished) and was set aside in 1946 for a proposed USAAF aviation museum. Pictured in the Museum's Experimental Aircraft Gallery, it has since been moved to the new fourth building for display in the Research and Development Gallery.

Originally designated YF-96A, it featured the fuselage of the last production F-84E fitted with sweptback wing and horizontal tail. Note the round intake of the f-84E as opposed to the ovular intake of production F-84Fs. The change was required to accommodate the increased airflow needs of the more powerful J65 engine which replaced the J35 of the F-84E and YF-96A.Iit's last use was in the development of the FICON parasite fighter for the B-36 with the addition of a nose hook and negative dihedral on the horizontal tail surfaces.

The first B-52 to fly, Featuring tandem seating as did the XB-52, all future models had a side by side flight deck. Seen here in May 1959 at the old Air Force Museum located on the Patterson side of Wright-Patterson AFB. The YB-52 was retired in the late 1950s to the museum, but the aircraft was scrapped in the mid-1960s because of a drive to get rid of excess military hardware.

Prototype Spectre gunship that was converted under Project Gunship II at Wright-Patterson AFB. It carried four 20mm cannon and four 7.62mm multi-barrel guns, used in a 30-degree left bank at night. This AC-130 was sent to Nha Trang AFB in Vietnam on Sept. 21, 1967 for a 90-day test. Other Spectres of 16th SOS based at Ubon flew interdiction missions along the Ho Chi Ming Trail from 1968 onward, destroying many trucks.
