A-7A 153228 had just been returned to VA-93 after having undergone maintenance at Atsugi which included stripping the aircraft and repainting it in the basic A-7 markings when this photo was taken. A catapult malfunction resulted in not enough airspeed to get airborne. The pilot ejected as the aircraft reached the end of the flight deck. In addition to the six demonstration aircraft, the number 7 aircraft launched with the team with a photographer in the rear seat (he has his camera up in the photo). Flown by the team narrator, this aircraft basically flew a loose formation with the demo aircraft through all of the airshow maneuvers. The wavy effect in the photo was caused by the hot exhaust from the two solo Super Hornets, which are directly in front of this aircraft awaiting take off.
