In the mid 1960s Kenneth Woolley bought G-AFJB for £20 to save it from being scrapped. He repainted it in wartime ATA markings with its impressment serial as no original photos existed. It was displayed in the garden of his home at Berkeswell, Warwickshire, until he built a blister hangar to house it in. It was restored to the register as G-AFJB on 2 January 1973 and still flying by 2015.

Original prototype Wicko F.W.1, built in Lusty's furniture factory, Bow, East London. Powered by a modified Ford V8 car engine, underslung radiator is evident in this photo. The engine proved to be too heavy and although the aircraft flew well the take-off run was too long. It was subsequently rebuilt as the F.W.2 with a 90hp Cirrus Minor I. Following storage in Birmingham during WW2 it was restored post-war but lapsed into dereliction at Portsmouth and disappeared in 1953. Photo supplied by Geoffrey Wikner in 1980.

Salvaged from Ballale Island in 1968. Restored to fly by Bob Diemert with a Wright R-2600 radial engine instead of the original. On November 22, 1969 he took off from Friendship Airfield on its first flight but it had not been registered or cleared. In anticipation of the flight, the Canadian Department Of Transport (DOT) had officers on the ground at the airport to arrest Bob when he landed. Instead, he flew about 20 miles to land at RCAF Station Macdonald near Portage la Prairie! Other sources say it is a D3A2, 3178. Photo by Fred Guthrie.

2 August 1947: At 1:46 p.m., G-AGWH, operating British South American Airways Flight CS59, departed Buenos Aires, Argentina enroute Santiago, Chile. At 5:41 p.m., Santiago airport received a routine Morse code signal indicating the flight would arrive in four minutes. It never arrived. Its fate remained a mystery until 1998, when two mountain climbers on Mount Tupungato, one of the highest mountains in South America, 50 miles east of Santiago, found a wrecked Rolls-Royce Merlin engine in the melting ice of a glacier at 15,000 ft.

Roll out ceremony of the complex composite Spitfire, based on the fuselage of RR232, and owned by Peter Sledge. The original RR232 was built at Castle Bromwich as an H.F.IX (Merlin 70) and had been taken on charge by No 45 MU, Kinloss, exactly 40 years earlier. After a period on display in Australia it was sold to Charles Church during 1985 and arrived in the UK in January 1987. Due to having been restored as a static exhibit many parts were removed and used in other projects before the hulk was bought by Martin Phillips for restoration to fly. (Photo by Peter Anderson).
